The 2000 Life Safety Code was used for Heinzerling's surveys in February, 2010. I attended a webinar on June 16, 2010, presented by Kenn Dailey LNHA, through the Ohio Health Care Association. That entire seminar revolved around the 2000 version. That was for nursing facilities and I believe he also did one for ICF/MR.

He would be a person I would recommend checking with. He was or still may be the chairman of OHCA's Disaster and Life Safety Committee and is on the Board of Directors for OHCA. I think he would have a definitive answer.

Anita, perhaps you could call him and let the rest of us know so he's not inundated with calls from everyone reading this email. His number is 937/268-3488.

Please see the question below. Any information or insight you have would be helpful. Thanks!

Anita Allen
Vice President

I'm writing wondering if you have any insight regarding the use of the
2002 Life Safety Codes in ODH surveys of ICFs/MR. Recently, we've been receiving sites under the '02 standards, but were unaware that ODH was using something different than the '00 manual. We've questioned surveyors about this during exit interviews, and contacted the Dayton regional office, but haven't received any answers. All information that I have access to indicates that we're still working from the '00 standards, unless a facility has applied for a waiver (link below).
Do you have any ideas on how or where we can get a definitive answer?
Have other ICFs had the same issue?
Thanks for your help with this!

Program Directors Subcommittee serves as a standing committee of the Policy Committee to examine issues which have a direct impact on the programs and services provided to individuals. Rule changes related to MUI reporting or delegated nursing might be discussed in detail in order to evaluate the impact. This committee was previously focused exclusively on ICF-MR issues. While the emphasis on ICF-MR services remains, the committee has been broadened to include program issues across all service environments, including supported living, Residential facility and individual options waiver services.
