Hi all,
I am a Red Cross Instructor and have seen many changes throughout the years.
Red Cross teaches participants to give Compressions AND Rescue Breaths.
If the question is: Does Red Cross teach people to give compressions without
giving rescue breaths, the answer is NO. To be certified, participants must
be able to demonstrate giving both.
If the question being asked is: Does Red Cross teach people to skip Rescue
Breathing without compression and go straight into CPR (compressions
including rescue breathing), the answer is yes. If a person is receiving
compressions, they should also be receiving rescue breaths. Red Cross Basic
CPR also teaches people that if a person needs rescue breaths, they should
also be giving compressions. They go hand in hand for basic level.
Chris.
