The Controlling Board will vote on Monday, October 21st on the
authorization of the appropriation for Medicaid extension. This decision
will impact 275,000 Ohioans without health coverage, including many of
our direct support professionals. It will also provide relief to OPRA
members who employ DSP's - from the ACA mandate for employer-sponsored
health care coverage. As I'm sure you know by now, that mandate will
cost OPRA members an estimated $20 million per year without Medicaid
extension. We're getting down to the wire and need extra help from you,
our human resources professionals!

OPRA has been asked to provide a few stories of OPRA member staff who
will benefit from Medicaid extension. These employees are earning below
138% of poverty per year and have no current health care coverage. Here
are the income guidelines for 138% of poverty:
Family Size Annual Income

1 $15,856
2 $21,404
3 $26,952
4 $32,500
5 $38,048
For each additional person, add $5,548 to the annual income.

These staff will likely work part time and do not need to be DSP's. We
need staff names and contact information by Wednesday afternoon.

Our intention is to contact these folks, interview them briefly and
publish a brief story on each person tomorrow.
