Anita,
Can you send this article to me. I don’t think it went out to the OPRA members list serve. This is a huge issue. Just taking the GED is cost prohibitive to a number of potential employees.

Given the current crisis in workforce and the restrictive rule of requiring a GED to work in our field, this article points out even more that we need to do everything possible to expand our workforce availability not restrict it.
The pass/fail rate is another indication, that for many good citizens in Ohio having a requirement of a GED is one more barrier to employment.
If they can successfully pass our orientation requirements, then we should be able to hire citizens with disabilities and others.
The cost of the GED are equally prohibitive. We should be encouraging citizens to take it for free, not present an economic challenge for those most in need and without income.
Finally, this requirement of having a GED is also a major barrier to hiring our very customer, citizens with disabilities, into our field.
With use of technology, use of buddy plan in settings as an example, and other innovative approaches we could assist in reaching 2 goals:
1. Expanding our workforce during and after the current crisis
2. Meeting the goal of Employment First: hiring citizens with disabilities so the most unemployed segment of our workforce reduced.
Thanks
Than
