I have just experienced the
Medicaid buy in for
disabled workers, which is what I believe you are referring
too. I
operate an 8 bed ICF, one of the guys who lives here has it
and he also earns a
very good paycheck from the workshop.
The problem I see is that
he is accumulating a lot
of dollars but it is very difficult to find ways to spend
it. Even
with a modest SS amount of say $500.00 a month, that
is an extra $6000.00
a year that we are responsible for and have to find a way to
spend it or lose
it. I believe the maximum he can have is
$10,000.00, you could
easliy reach that in less than a year with some
folks.
There is just not enough
areas that you could spend
it on consistantly. After you get a burial
contract, customize a
bedroom, maybe get an I-pad, or bicycle, or vacation
package, you will still be
getting dollars to spend.
I think it may be more of a
hassle than it is
worth. One option may be to do that for a year
to boost a persons
personal assets, then get off the program.

Taking a poll. If
you operate an ICF, how many of the
individuals you serve are enrolled in the Buy In
program?
If you like the program,
would you be willing to tell me
why?
If you do not like the
program, would you be willing to
tell me why not?
I’m trying to figure
out the “best deal” for the
individuals we serve.
