Feds Demand Equal Access in Healthcare during Crisis

In a new bulletin, the U.S. Office for Civil Rights (OCR) warns healthcare providers to “not unlawfully discriminate against people with disabilities when making decisions about their treatment during the COVID-19 health care emergency.”

“Our civil rights laws protect the equal dignity of every human life from ruthless utilitarianism,” OCR Director Roger Severino said in a statement.  "Persons with disabilities. . .should not be put at the end of the line for health care during emergencies.”

Separately, I/DD providers should be on high alert for hackers attempting to exploit COVID-19.  This complimentary download, Crisis Tipsheet: Staff Best Practices for IT Security, will help staff recognize malicious tactics in play during this crisis.
