We also allow 2 weeks of PTO to carry over. In our policy, we also build in the option to cash the PTO at 100%. We do have some verbiage on the amount that
can be cashed/when. (See below). It has helped us during our DSP shortage as well, because staff have the option of monetary benefit vs. time off.
No more than two weeks of PTO may be banked at any point in time. Unused PTO as of December 31st in excess of 2 weeks, including the banked amount, will
be automatically “cashed out” in January. Any amount of the banked PTO can be cashed out throughout the year by notifying the Business Manager. One twelfth of the current PTO can be cashed out per month, and can be built up at the rate of one-twelfth per
month to be cashed out later in the year.

We allow 1 week to carry over. I am in the process of revising policy so anything more than a week that is left is paid out. It's a win-win. Employees earned it so you don't
want them to lose it, but it decreases the carry over effects.
Thank you!

We just pay out vacation time in the employee’s anniversary month. An easy system, saves a lot of tracking.

Subject: Question for ListServ
Hi,
I have a question, We are trying to revamp our vacation policy. The problem is we never had a cap on vacation and allowed for employees to carry over a lot of
vacation hours (400+). We also have a system where employees can buy-back some of their vacation hours, if needed. Does anyone have a really good vacation policy that may have the buy-back program as part of it? Or does anyone think that they have a really
good vacation policy that they would be willing to share? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
