I have compared the unofficial report that can be run for free on the BMV website to a report from OPEN that provides a full driving report.  I discovered more points on the OPEN report that the free report gave me no indication of additional activity.

I wouldn’t recommend running the free report because if the applicant or employee doesn’t self-report you can have points outside of the free report period.

When you request the unofficial abstract, it prints with no name on the paper. How is that approved by licensure?

For background checks we use our local sheriff’s department and our local ESC (Education Service Center) through our county. The sheriff’s department offers limited hours for fingerprinting and is a longer process which is why we found another location to do fingerprinting.

For a driver’s abstract we send in a request for the new hire to be added to our insurance policy because they will not add a driver with more than 6 points, as well as getting an unofficial abstract from the State of Ohio’s BMV website. Through the BMV you have the option of a free two year “unofficial”  abstract or to pay for a 3 year official abstract. We opt for the unofficial copy, which is approved by licensure and can be printed immediately.

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone. Member question below. As always, thanks for your help.

Who do Providers use for their background checks and driver abstracts?
