As a former bereavement counselor, I can say you are all doing this right.  Having extra resources available, is wonderful.  Grief is unpredictable, and does not have a time frame...
Many of the suggestions mentioned here are great- the rose garden, an annual planting for the individual, and ongoing journal for people to enter whenever they want.
