We pay vacation time on employees anniversary date regardless if they take time off or not. 
Simple plan.

Our PTO system doesn't have a year end 'use or lose' deadline --- our system is a rolling system. However, our team members are only allowed to accrue a maximum of the number of hours they are eligible to earn in a two year period. Once the maximum accrual is achieved, all accruals will stop until they use hours to put their balance below the maximum.  

For example, if I accrue 80 hours per year, my maximum balance at any time is 160 hours. If my balance hits 160 hours, I'll accrue no additional PTO until I use PTO to reduce my balance to below that 160 hour maximum. 

Our PTO also has no cash out value at the time of termination or resignation.

We allow FT staff to carryover up to 40 hours and PT staff to carryover up to 29 hours.

Our policy is “use it or lose it”.  Not allowing hours to carry-over into the next year alleviates the problem.

I have another question that maybe you or the ListServ can answer. We have not had a policy in place, internally, for vacation hours. We have several employees that have hundreds of hours. I was wondering if anyone in the OPRA group has a good policy for vacation hours and putting a cap on the amount an employee can have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
