They'll learn tools and strategies that can be used right away in their work. A portion of this session will focus on DSPs sharing their experiences with person-centered plans and ideas for how we can make plans better and easier to use for DSPs.

Crossing the Threshold of Work

Presented by: Willie Jones

Crossing the Threshold of Work means we are intentional about our self-assessment and our self-talk. This means we acknowledge that what we do is important and that what we Say & Do Matters. We should be intentional about knowing ourselves and realizing that we bring many valuable tools to work.

Session Outcomes: To help DSPs use Good life tools to self-assess and identify their strengths, skills, contributions and Head to Toe tools.

GO TO YOUR ROOM

Vision Boarding 101: Manifesting Success

Presented by Andrea McKay & Janna Richards

*          What is a Vision Board

*          How to use a board to:

       *   Identify a personal vision (outcome) and give it clarity.

       *   Keep attention on intentions.

       *   Help manifest visions in your life (achieving outcomes)

Participants will develop their own Vision Board.

DSP Engagement for Impact and Change

Presented by Joshua Petterson

DSPs fill a vital advocacy role in the lives of the people they support. However, DSPs can also help facilitate important changes in the field they work in, if they can find ways to achieve personal and professional engagement. In this session, we will discuss the importance and potential impact of DSP engagement considering the current workforce crisis, and provide information on how any DSP can adopt a role of informed advocacy for their profession.

Supporting People on the Autism Spectrum

Presented by Angi Philips

Participants will gain knowledge on Autism, being able to identify symptoms and process an approach to intervene. Information will be shared how to interact with varying symptoms, to provide the best options for meaningful interactions.

Protecting the Health and Welfare of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Presented by Scott Phillips

This interactive presentation will discuss the importance of protecting a very vulnerable population. Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are victimized at an incredibly high rate. Direct support professionals (DSPs) play a key role in reporting and assuring the protection of individuals within the DD system. Participants will identify the risks associated with abuse and neglect and develop an understanding of the MUI system in place to provide protection.

Why Do People Say Such Mean Things?

Presented by Jerry Ross

As we work with people, we get ensnared in their lives, for better and for worse. As we consider Trauma's impact in their lives, it's important to consider its impact in ours. As we work toward healing, we should take steps along a long and challenging path. Let's start the journey of a thousand miles with the first step of controlling our reaction to negative events.

Assistive Technology

Presented by Julia Wolff & John Blair

Participants will understand the definition of assistive technology, how to assess need. Participants will be able to identify common off the shelf items that help level the playing field for individuals with special needs. Participants will develop an understanding of how assistive technology can help individuals at home, at work and in the community.

Continuing Professional Development Units will be available.
