Subject: Take Action! Join Us on March 6 to Tell Congress It's Time to Renew MFP!
To: <justin.blumhorst@capabilitiesinc.biz>

Please take two minutes today to join the national disability community in supporting a grant program that helps people with disabilities voluntarily move into the community. The Money Follows the Person (MFP) program's funding is fast running out, and we need Congress to renew it!

The Ask: Please use our call tool and our email tool to ask your members of Congress to co-sponsor bills that renew MFP for 5 years.

The Details: Today, March 6, ANCOR joins other national disability organizations in calling for Congress to pass H.R. 1342, a bill introduced last week by U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Brett Guthrie (R-KY) to renew the Money Follows the Person (MFP) program for five years. The Senate companion bill S. 548 has been introduced by U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA). Currently, the MFP program is on a 3-month renewal which will end around mid-April. Because most of the 44 states which receive MFP grants have already run out of funding reserves, this means that if the program is not renewed this year states will likely cease or decrease the supports they offer through this program. MFP is an important rebalancing program which has so far helped over 85,000 people with disabilities and/or chronic conditions who have asked to move out of state-run institutions live instead with the community with their family and peers. Because of its importance in supporting the inclusion of people with disabilities in mainstream society, renewal of the MFP program is a policy priority for ANCOR, and ANCOR has been a leader on these bills in the Congress.
