I am seeking suggestions for where to look for funding for a bathroom remodel.

WHO FOR:  a former group home client of ours (1978-1986) who since moved out on his own; married; has an adult son (with autism); J.W. is physically handicapped with Cerebral Palsy; non-am; works full time as does his wife.  Saved for a decade to get a down payment for their own home.  They LOVE their home.

WHAT:  their only bathroom needs a complete remodel; not for looks; for use!   Over the years, moisture has rotted the floor and subfloor.  John needs a shower/tub that she can get in and out of.

I have solicited assistance (volunteer) from an Occupational Therapist Aide and from a Contractor who will help set up the plan.

BUT WE ARE RUNNING INTO ROADBLOCKS for funding.   We figure we are looking at a $15,000 project.

John lives in Montgomery County.   IF John had stayed “in the DD system,” I figure this could have already been funded.  But, because he and his wife want to be independent (and in most every regard they are), they do not seem to be eligible for any significant help.

I am open for suggestions.  We have been in touch with United Rehabilitation Services (thank you, Dennis Grant); we intend to contact Goodwill/Easter Seals.

Other suggestions?
