Just wanted to share this document from DRO about Personal Assistants. I know some providers “freak” out when they see/hear DRO; yet they are such a great resource for people receiving services, families, etc. and even providers. When working with companies, I point them to DRO for information on accommodation because the companies really want to do the right way. Aside, this document would be a great share for the people receiving your services.

Happy New Year All!

That’s an excellent idea. It would be nice for OPRA and OACB to jointly

recognize. If someone would run into an issue with a theater, feel free

to let me know and I can reach out to the person from corporate.

This is really good news. I've copied ANCOR so as other states may petition Cinemark and then maybe other theatre chains will follow suit. Maybe we can recognize Cinemark for its 'pro-DSP' decision???

Thx

Hello All-

Prior to the holidays, Lisa poised a question if any type of advocacy could be done by explaining to local theaters, etc. that staff is an accommodation for the person receiving services and therefore should be able to attend with the person without paying admittance.

Out of curiosity, I contacted the corporate office of Cinemark in Texas and posed this question. They do voluntarily provide this accommodation to the caregiver (DSP) in Ohio. (She did point out, though, this is not considered an accommodation under Federal law, but something Cinemark offers voluntarily in Ohio.) She shared all employees at the theaters have gone through extensive training and understand how to process payment and issue tickets to caregivers.

***This is what the theaters need from the providerIdentification of proof the DSP is a paid caregiver. It can be in something as simple as a letter (note) that is signed.
