Great question, Anita. This is a real issue for Heinzerling since a good number of our applicants are not from the US. Many of them don’t have high school diplomas or GED’s since their schooling system is not the same as ours, or they don’t have documents to give us. The rule offers no guidance on what constitutes an equivalent education or proof for those from other countries. This has been a question I’ve had since this rule was being changed.
We have begun tracking the number of all applicants we are having to turn away for not having a HS diploma or GED. I think DODD should have to justify the reason for requiring this just like any of us would have to do if challenged by DOL when we include this requirement in a job description.
