I chose to call my assigned participant. Imagine...talking by telephone! :)

Seriously, I spoke with her for about 20 minutes on my way home last night sharing our backgrounds and her sharing her objectives of the training. Through conversation, I was able to quickly determine her level within her organization as well as her comfort level with supervision and leadership. I offered that she could call me between trainings with real-life situations with which she is dealing in order to get my input. Books and theory are great, however, application of what's learned can go a long way.

Just an idea.

Trish

I wanted to pass on a sample introduction email that Michael sent to his Advance participant. I thought it was excellent and a good example of what you could send, if you haven't done so already.

Jamie

Good Afternoon Rachel,
I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself as your "Coach" for the Leadership training you are participating in through OPRA with Jamie Steele.

This is new to me also so we can learn together. As I understand it you will be choosing a leadership goal you would like to attain in the next year. I will assist you in reaching your goal and becoming a better leader.

Currently I am the Executive Director of an agency that has a 32 bed ICF, respite, a day program, a community recreation program (IO Waiver) and delivers HPC services.

In 2009 I received a Masters in Organizational Leadership from Lourdes University.

I'm here to make your experience fun while assisting you become a better leader.

Let me know if there is more information you would like about me or my organization.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Michael

Hi everyone,

We are off and ready to start our Leadership training and as of this date we have 27 signed up with a new maximum of 30 participants. Training starts May 22nd. If you remember, I had asked that each Board member (and some "tenured" leaders in our industry..Gary) to be assigned to a participant and act as a Coach. Coaching is not a huge commitment and you are free to be as active as you like. All I ask is that you reach out to the participant that is assigned to you either by phone or email and welcome them to the program. In addition, talk with them about 1 leadership goal they would like to have over the next year (what would they like to learn more about, what area of leadership do they want to be better at, etc.). Through your contact over the year (2 or 3 times over the course of the year), you will encourage them to attain this goal. Also throughout the year, ask them what they are learning, giving them an opportunity to tell you about the material we are covering.

Most of this contact will be done by email or phone and I don't expect you to meet them in person, however, if you can work it out that you do, even better.

Thanks so much for helping me, them, OPRA with is inaugural Leadership Training.

Jamie

See attached for the person(s) you are assigned to. You will see your name in the NOTES section. Some of you have two people assigned to you, because you are so nice. If you can't commit to being a coach, please let me know so that can reassign.
