We have had this policy, however, our experience has been that if we hold staff financially accountable, they will go to great lengths to hide any damage they have caused.

 Hi
Jerri, This question comes up for us
periodically as well. There are quite a few factors to
navigate in holding the employee financially responsible for
damage (including but not limited to…  whether they are
exempt or non-exempt, whether the payments effectively put
them below minimum wage, and whether there was a signed
agreement in place in advance of the accident).  Prior to
implementing a policy like this, you may want to have it
reviewed by an attorney to ensure that it doesn’t cause
any problems with wage and hour. That being said, there is always
the option of addressing performance via disciplinary action
if some of your staff are not taking appropriate caution or
care with agency property. Hope this
 helps! Norma

 Subject: vehicle
 liability Does anyone have a
policy that the employee is responsible for full or partial
payment of the deductible in situations that a company owned
vehicle is damaged and the employee is at fault?  While
most of our drivers are very safe, we have had one or
two that don't seem to remember that the vans are
 significantly larger than their compact
 cars...
